Abstract. Otherness and difference are at the core of the world as we are able to know it through our senses and through them to make sense of our role and place in it. The beliefs we receive from our loved ones, from teachers, educational institutions, society also form a large part of the values through which we explain the world to ourselves and accept the other as a value or a threat. The need to improve and develop social-emotional competences among adolescents is also an occasion to study their values, to what extent they know how to apply them in practice at the level of competences. A study was conducted among students in primary, junior high and high school stages of education, looking for the connections between values and competences.
