Absract. Monitoring child’s development in the early and preschool years is of utmost importance as this is a period of great plasticity, during which children respond best to therapy and to stimulation. Psychological assessment in this period of life is an important part of the process of early identification of developmental problems. The result of it could help parents to choose timely an appropriate intervention program. This paper aims to present the basic principles of good practices for psychological assessment of development in early and preschool children. The authors discuss validated and proven models that meet professional standards and ethical requirements.
