Abstract. The article analyzes the possibilities and limitations of using artificial intelligence (AI) in education. Some deficits in the development of the student's personality, which may arise as a consequence of its unbalanced use in education, are commented on. A methodological model of project-oriented learning is proposed, in which the use of AI, in particular ChatGPT, as a tool and elements of project work is envisaged. It has in mind its possible negative influence on the motivation for reading, learning, critical thinking, on aspects of the young person's mental and moral development, etc. Some pedagogical principles in the use of AI in education are derived, including the formation of an attitude of critical attitude towards the products generated by it and the formation of models for working with AI, in which it is perceived as an auxiliary tool for reaching one's own solutions, and not as the author of such or as an authority.
