Prospective Science Teachers Understanding of Kinematic Graphs in Collaborative Socratic Questioning by Web-Based Formative Assessment
Резюме. Projectile motion is still a challenging subject matter for students. So far, efforts to improve understanding of the concept have not optimally involved formative assessment. In this study, an analysis was carried out to investigate prospective science teachers’ understanding of one-dimensional kinematic graphs as the effect of collaborative Socratic questioning course accompanied by web-based formative assessment. The embedded experimental research involved 30 students consisting 5 men and 27 women. Quantitative data were obtained from pre-test and post-test that utilize multiple choice tests with reasons. Qualitative data were obtained from classroom learning activities, reasons of student answers, e-learning, and interviews. Based on the N-gain value (0.31), it can be seen that collaborative Socratic questioning accompanied by web-based formative assessment increase the kinematic graphs concepts in the medium category. Based on the D-effect size value (1.41), course has a strong influence on the concept of students’ kinematic graphs. However, it was found that there are still some student difficulties in determining the displacement of the time velocity graphs and the velocity of time acceleration graphs. Collaborative Socratic questioning learning accompanied by web based formative assessment can be an alternative to help students’ kinematic graphs material.

Visualization as a Component of the Educational Process in the Course of Analytical Chemistry for Students of Technological Specialities
Резюме. Visualization of the process of learning allows, with a minimum number of classroom hours, to familiarize students with a large amount of theoretical and practical material. This article proposes a model of one teaching unit of the module: “Spectroscopic and other optical analysis methodsâ€: “Molecular absorption spectroscopyâ€. Visibility and intelligibility of complicated material allows achieving a high level of knowledge among to-be technical engineers.

Green Chemistry in the School Laboratory [In Bulgarian]
Резюме. Despite the great contribution of chemistry, its negative image in society is a serious problem. Green Chemistry (or Sustainable Chemistry) addresses the efficient use of raw materials and waste management and issues related to health, safety and the environment. It offers the opportunity to put ideas of sustainability into school practice. This paper examines the effect of the application of green chemistry in laboratory activities on the study of chemical processes for students in grade 10. For this aim „green“ alternatives of traditional experiments on the subject are selected and adapted. The quality and applicability of the experiments and didactic materials are validated through an expert evaluation of 16 teachers. After implementing some of the experiments into the laboratory practices of 70 tenth graders, a survey was conducted with them. The surveyed students gave a high rating to the green attempts: in terms of their: safety, economy, related to everyday life, accessibility, attractiveness. Experimental activities of students lead to their engagement in chemistry classes and Chemistry becomes more interesting, more comprehensible and more accessible to them. The emphasis on green chemistry in laboratory work contributes to the development of environmental awareness and behavior. The attitude of the students towards the subject is improved because they see science in a new, better perspective, as friendly to the environment. It is an effective method of motivating students to study chemistry and influencing their attitudes and emotions towards sustainability and environmental issues.

On the Genetic Ties between European Nations
Резюме. The gathered data from genetic research permits analysis of geographic distribution of haplogroups of European nations. In this paper we conjecture that the predominant processes playing main part in modeling the contemporary quantitative distribution of these haplogroups in Europe are diffusion type processes.

Achieving Effective Teaching of Module „Chemical Kinetics – Chemical Equilibrium“ with the Aid of an Integrated Website
Резюме. A website has been created, which seeks to bring out the ways in which is possible, a pedagogic technique, based on exploiting the Internet, to achieve the „higher“ learning goal, namely the cultivating of critical thinking. It contains chapters with the theoretical material on “Chemical Kinetics-Chemical Equilibrium†and related subunits. They have the appropriate theory and examples that the student should study before proceeding with the questions to check for understanding and the proposed exercises. It addresses the students in order to help them move away from the classical method of learning from the book and on the other hand to help them experiment with the use of the computer, in order to turn the lesson more attractive to all of them. Except for the creation of the website and its structure, various online tools are presented for its implementation. The goal was for the students to understand the theoretical framework that covers the concepts of “Chemical Kinetics-Chemical Equilibriumâ€, to have their active participation and to maintain their interest during the teaching of the subunits undiminished.

Ivan Stranski – The Grandmaster of Crystal Growth (Markov, 2019) [In Bulgarian]
Резюме. Who is Ivan Stranski, you ask? If you Google his name you will find thousands of sites that talk about him. In fact, the Kossel – Stranski model of crystal growth and the Stranski–Krastanov mode of growth of thin epitaxial films are named after him – just of two of the many scientific ideas and concepts Professor Stranski introduced in science (and through which a whole new field in science was born). Today thousands of physicists, chemists and material scientists all over the world are working in the field of crystal growth, particularly in epitaxial growth and nucleation which are necessary for the invention of new materials and high technologies. In this respect, the life, personality and way of thinking of this remarkable scientist should be of great interest in both beginners and professionals in science. The book describe the life and scientific achievements of Ivan Stranski, Bulgarian – German physical chemist and the father of crystal growth, against the historical backdrop of wars, massacres, and remarkable scientific discoveries in the 20th century. It covers his family roots, which are remarkable in their own right, the life and career both in Bulgaria and Germany (West Berlin), and his scientific achievements, including his most important contribution to the physics of crystal growth. The book captures Professor Stranski’s personality and way of thinking as much as possible from the recollections of his disciples and contemporaries. Short biographical notes about the most renowned students in Bulgaria, Rostislav Kaischew and Lyubomir Krastanov with whom Stranski developed his most fundamental ideas are also included (World Scientific).
